Modesto, Stanislaus County
Modesto is the seat of Stanislaus County, where almonds are the leading crop and orchards bloom white across the valley floor each February. Irrigation made it possible, and the Modesto Irrigation District has delivered river water to local farms since the early 1900s. The downtown arch, raised in 1912, still carries the slogan Water Wealth Contentment Health.
